Standing Ovation for Rocky Horror

Slowly, at first, and then all at once, the audience rose from their seats in applause for KU’s shadow cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show. The cast and crew had been rehearsing for months to put on a spectacular show, and they did not disappoint.

Refreshments were provided, and baked goods were available upon donation. All proceeds were donated to Reading Pride and the Bradbury-Sullivan Center in Allentown.

Everyone in the audience received a prop bag filled with directions for when to use each prop during the performance.

The show started with moaning and banana eating contests, classics to the cult following of Rocky Horror. The audience roared in cheer and laughter, and a lack of creativity could not be claimed for the contestants, who, in one occasion, performed a group attempt in the banana eating contest.

The contests were judged by cheers from the audience, and the winners were offered small roles in the performance, an act they accepted and played with elation.

The fun didn’t stop there; Months of hard work from the cast paid off with an astounding performance and overwhelming support and interaction from the audience, who called out at all the classic Rocky Horror audience cues.

In the calm of the final scene, an audience member yelled out, “He looks just like him,” referring to the actor playing Dr. Frankenfurter. The audience laughed in agreement.

The performance closed with an opening for the audience to donate and tip performers.
