Kutztown University will be hosting its 2nd annual Gender and Sexual Minorities conference Fri. Sept. 28, 2018 in the Multipurpose Room, Room 218, in the McFarland Student Union building.
Evan Thornburg, Deputy Director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs for the city of Philadelphia is the keynote speaker and will present at 10 a.m.
This year’s conference theme is Intersectionality with a focus on queer people of color. The LGBTQ Resource Center recognizes that, “All identities are beautifully complex,” and these events are dedicated to encouraging and opening dialogue around the many, often overlooked, identities that intersect with sexual orientation and gender identity.
The KU GLBTQ Center invites undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, activists, and independent scholars to submit presentations for the conference.
According to the conference page on the Center’s ENGAGE website, “[they] are looking for presentations and workshops with specific learning outcomes focused on the following topics as they relate to the LGBTQ+ community: Queer People of Color, Mental Health, Privilege, Economics, Law/Politics and Disabilities,” but other topics may be accepted.
Submissions submitted on time will be reviewed. The deadline for proposals is Mon. Sept. 17.
The pre-registration deadline is Wed. Sept. 26. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. in the MSU lobby on the day of the conference.
